Solareff proudly participated in this year’s Enlit Africa conference which took place in Cape Town from 20 – 22 May. Our Chief Commercial Officer, DeVilliers Botha, delivered a compelling presentation on the critical role of energy management in modern microgrids.

Titled “What’s the Use of Energy if You Can’t Manage It?”, the session explored how intelligent energy management systems are transforming the way microgrids operate, using the “symphony of energies” to enhance reliability, optimise energy use, and pave the way for a more sustainable future. Through a series of real-world case studies, DeVilliers illustrated how effective system integration can turn complex energy environments into resilient, efficient, and scalable solutions.

A key highlight of the presentation was Solareff’s work on the Hartenbos Wastewater Treatment Works project — a pioneering microgrid project developed in collaboration with Mossel Bay Municipality. Currently under construction, this innovative solution integrates seamlessly with the national grid while ensuring uninterrupted power through a combination of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Solar PV. In the rare event that both grid and renewable sources are unavailable, standby diesel generators provide an additional layer of energy security. We were honoured to have Morné Olivier from Mossel Bay Municipality attend the event and join us in celebrating the success of this collaborative project.
