Established in May 2010 by Jaco Botha and DeVilliers Botha, Solareff (Pty) Ltd has become renowned as one of the leading specialists in Solar Photovoltaic (PV) solutions in South Africa, with the proven ability to deliver optimised PV and Battery Energy Storage Solutions (BESS) to effectively meet our client’s consumption requirements.
Through our team of highly qualified engineers and project managers, we have successfully completed over 600 installations, and have over 248MWp of commissioned and current projects across Southern Africa.
Our projects have included record-breaking installations such as the 7.216MWp solar PV rooftop solution at Eastgate Shopping Centre (currently the largest registered rooftop solar PV installation in South Africa); the 6.8MWp solar PV rooftop solution at Boardwalk Inkwazi in Richard’s Bay; and the 2.9MWp Clearwater Mall Embedded Generation project, which was South Africa’s first commercial rooftop solar PV installation to break the 1MWp barrier for own consumption.
Shareholdings
In August 2023, STANLIB Asset Management, a leading South African investor in sustainable infrastructure, acquired a controlling equity interest in Solareff, through its STANLIB Infrastructure Fund II.
STANLIB has committed substantial capital to fast-track the build-out of capex-free energy solutions for the C&I market through Solareff. This investment allowed us to establish SolareffConnect, offering clients stable and lower-cost green electricity through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).

Solareff CEO, Jaco Botha, was an industry advisor to the Eskom Renewable Energy Grid Code Committee, and Solareff COO, DeVilliers Botha, serves as a SAPVIA Board Member, as well as on the SAPVIA Grid Access Subcommittee, and on the SANS 10142-3 workgroup. Recognised as an industry thought leader, DeVilliers regularly serves as a specialist speaker and panel member at various internationally attended Renewable Energy Conferences.
