Solareff Proprietary Limited (“Solareff”) is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of its exit from GridCars Proprietary Limited (“GridCars”), a leading player in South Africa’s electric vehicle (“EV”) charging infrastructure sector.

As part of its strategic transition, Solareff will be stepping back from its majority ownership and operational role in GridCars. This marks a significant milestone for both companies, ushering in a new chapter of growth and advancement in South Africa’s energy and mobility sector.

This strategic divestment forms part of Solareff’s broader commitment to leading innovation in the energy sector. Solareff will continue to leverage its proven ability to deliver competitively priced Distributed Generation solutions through Microgrids and Battery Energy Storage Systems (“BESS”). As Solareff advances its Energy as a Service (“EAAS”) model and prepares for shifts in the energy market, it is well positioned to apply its core engineering, procurement, construction (“EPC”) expertise, alongside capex-free solution to meet the evolving market demand.

Since 2017, Solareff has guided GridCars from its infancy, pioneering the first off-grid chargers and the first EV charging highway in South Africa. This enabled EV charging on highways nationwide, driving EV use on most main routes and in cities, whilst building the brand as the go-to for benchmarking EV charging in South Africa.

Jaco Botha, CEO, commented:
Our decision to exit GridCars aligns with our strategic vision of delivering Future Focused Energy. GridCars is at the right stage to be escalated as a business and be refuelled for its next chapter. We are confident that the new partner will continue to build on the solid foundation established by GridCars and accelerate the deployment of EV infrastructure across South Africa.”

Solareff is excited about the opportunities in the South African energy landscape and will continue to deliver high-impact renewable energy solutions through its comprehensive offering.
