Soshanguve Microgrid Solution

Soshanguve 4450kWp Solar PV & 5000kWh Battery Energy Storage Solution (BESS)

Solareff, in collaboration with renewable energy consultants Imbue Sustainability, proudly delivered a large-scale microgrid solution in Soshanguve, designed to enhance energy security, stabilise supply, and drive sustainable independence.

Project Overview

The Soshanguve installation features a 4450kWp solar PV system, comprising 7,500 high-efficiency solar panels. These panels are strategically positioned to maximise energy yield while ensuring long-term performance and reliability across the site.

Ballasted Roof Installation

A key component of the project includes a ballast system installed on a slab roof, engineered to balance structural integrity with practical installation considerations.

Panel Installation:
– A total of 702 solar panels will be installed on the slab roof in this section.

Ballast Design:
– The ballast system has been engineered for both stability and ease of transport.
– The ballast is divided into 8 sections, each weighing 26kg.
– This modular approach simplifies handling and installation on site.

Total Ballast Weight:
– The combined ballast required for this section is approximately 3,200kg.

Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

The heart of our Soshanguve microgrid solution is a powerful 5000kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), designed to store solar energy and provide backup power when it’s needed most.

Our Soshanguve microgrid solution will significantly reduce carbon emissions and reliance on fossil fuels, contributing to a cleaner, greener Soshanguve. It will save over 4100 tons of coal and prevent more than 7500 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
