O & M Technician

Based: Roodepoort, Gauteng

Our Technician will be providing technical support to the O&M Team on Solar PV plants. You will not have a routine and probably no day will be the same, and you will “like it like that!”. Our Technician will be happy to do multiple things at once and interact with clients, fellow employees and everyone on your path that day. You will be required to work at heights, but also as low as your chair for system monitoring. Our Technician will be an avid problem solver and solution finder. You will have support but will be required to work and complete tasks on your own mostly – accountability and responsibility. Our Technician will form part of our team where we don’t just work, but play and have fun whenever we can.

What you must have to apply:

  • Valid Electrical Trade or related qualification
  • Instrumentation & Automation experience will be advantageous
  • Online PV Plant monitoring systems experience will be beneficial
  • Experience in operation and maintenance of Photovoltaic plants will be beneficial
  • South African Citizenship, Clear Criminal Record, Valid Driver’s License *please note that candidates will be subjected to relevant screening processes in line with the functions and risks contained within the position

If you have the ability to do these, it will make you stand out more:

  • Root cause analysis and preventative maintenance on PV plants and equipment
  • Ability to optimally alternate between fault finding and remote monitoring of PV plants and on-site repair and maintenance
  • Have a working knowledge on Quality systems, as well as Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental regulations
  • Interpersonal & Client Relations: efficiently liaise, interact and building of lasting relationships with the various stakeholders
  • Basic financial accounting and budgetary knowledge for client invoicing, quotations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft packages, with emphasis on Excel – data exporting and analysis for monthly reporting
  • Tenacity to perform under continuous pressure and have a pro-active/preventative mindset
  • Must be able to apply independent judgment, initiative and attention to detail

Some of what you will be doing:

  • Monitoring on a daily basis the site and maintenance operation to ensure solar plants do not have interruptions or breakdowns
  • Fault finding on AC and DC reticulation systems and repair faults and/or escalating critical issues
  • Prioritise activities with task and workflow assignment to ensure contingency
  • Responsible for maintenance (preventative, planned and emergency), breakdowns on PV plants and BESS solutions
  • Generate Quotations and Invoices for O&M services and/or system repairs
  • Manage contractors servicing and/or rebuilding solar installations
  • Export, interpret and analyse various types of data for report writing and optimising of service delivery
  • Extending technical support to all stakeholders
