As a leading Solar PV specialist, we are excited to be expanding into green mobility through the acquisition of a 75% stake in GridCars - a South African based developer of electric vehicle charge point software management systems and supplier of charge points.
Our investment will enable GridCars to reach critical mass and scalability required to lead the industry and roll out a network of EV charging stations across the country which will be the enabler of a carbon free transport system for South Africa.
Internationally there is increasing interest from vehicle manufactures in developing electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Both Nissan and BMW have already released EVs to the South African market with more manufactures announcing plans to do so in 2018. There are currently over 100 charge points already installed across South Africa, and GridCars aims to dramatically increase this number in the near future to power South Africa’s Green mobility revolution.
Since our inception Solareff (Pty) Ltd has experienced substantial growth and in February 2016, JSE listed ICT distribution group, Alviva Holdings Ltd (previously known as Pinnacle Holdings Ltd) acquired a 51% stake in Solareff.
The Alviva Holdings Ltd involvement ensures the ongoing sustainability of Solareff and the ability to support growth opportunities identified within the South African photovoltaic market as a whole. The ability to leverage the strong warehousing, logistics and financial capabilities of the Alviva Holdings group offers us access to exciting growth opportunities and attractive new markets. The Alviva Holdings group’s national footprint enables us to support solutions in all the major centres across South Africa well beyond the guarantee periods offered on solutions.
Our offering has been further enhanced through the in-house finance solution provided by Alviva Holdings subsidiary, Centrafin. Clients now have the option to shift a portion of the existing electricity expense in their income statement away from Eskom / Utility to Centrafin and build a solution that will deliver value for more than 25 years. Centrafin specialises in off-balance sheet rental solutions that do not affect the current facilities the customer holds with their main financial service providers.
As part of the Alviva Holdings group, all Solareff employees are subject to the Alviva Holdings Code of Conduct.
Solareff CEO, Jaco Botha, was an industry advisor to the Eskom Renewable Energy Grid Code Committee, and Solareff COO, DeVilliers Botha, serves on the SAPVIA Grid Access Subcommittee and on the SANS 10142-3 workgroup. Recognised as an industry thought leader, DeVilliers regularly serves as a specialist speaker and panel member at various internationally attended Renewable Energy Conferences.
Solareff is a proud member of the Green Building Council SA, and we support them in their mission to encourage the South African property industry to develop buildings that are designed, built and operated in an environmentally sustainable way.
Solareff is proud to announce that we have achieved the ISO 9001:2015 certification for our Quality Management System.
